The concept of “professionalism” in prosecution is often focused on a prosecutor’s treatment towards others-- victims, witnesses, opposing counsel and the Court. Functioning as the best version of our professional self is often difficult in an industry rife with burnout, lack of resources and vicarious trauma. This webinar is intended to adjust the lens through which we view professionalism by demonstrating how personal and institutional wellbeing create the essential foundation upon which every professional relationship can be built.
Katie Gropper is the Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit of Georgia. Prior to becoming Chief Assistant District Attorney, Katie was the Deputy Chief of the Special Victims Unit and spent 16 years specializing in the prosecution of crimes against children. After many years of experiencing the negative effects of burnout and vicarious trauma associated with her work, Katie now champions the importance of creating a culture of balance and self-care within our professional lives in order to meet the needs of our victims and our communities without sacrificing ourselves.
