Kirsten Valenzuela is a nationally recognized capital litigation prosecutor. She currently serves as the Assistant Bureau Chief of the Capital Litigation Unit at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office (Phoenix, AZ) where she has tried Capital Cases ranging from a serial rapist/murderer to gang related to domestic violence and child murder cases. Prior to her tenure specializing in death penalty cases beginning in 2007, Kirsten served in a leadership role in multiple bureaus throughout the office since 2002 including the Gang and Repeat Offender Bureau. Kirsten's professional awards, among others, include the 2010 Board of Directors Trial Advocacy Award from the National Association of Government Attorneys in - Capital Litigation (AGACL), 2017 Violent Crimes Prosecutor of the Year (Maricopa County Attorney's Office), and Outstanding Alumna, 2011 from the Arizona State University College of Law. She regularly teaches to prosecutors, law enforcement professionals, judicial officers, and law students on the following topics: Capital Jury Voir Dire, Ethics and Professionalism, Effective Courtroom Advocacy, and Successfully Prosecuting Complex Gang cases.
