Description

The Supreme Court eliminated peremptory strikes beginning on January 1, 2022, and asked the Task Force to recommend changes to voir dire as result of that change. On November 1, 2021, the Task Force issued its recommendations along with proposed best practices, and the Supreme Court adopted the Task Force’s recommendations on an emergency basis on December 8, 2021. Assistant Arizona Attorney General Nick Klingerman will provide an update on the work of the Task Force, review the jury selection rule changes, present best practices for picking a jury in a system without peremptory challenges, and review caselaw on for-cause challenges.
