During the 1970s in Great Britain, women lived in terror of the Yorkshire Ripper. Known as a modern day " ripper" for attacking women with a hammer and then slashing and stabbing them with either a knife or sharpened screwdriver. At the end of his reign of terror at least 13 women were dead and 11 other had their lived changed forever after they survived his murderous attacks. The police investigation was flawed - what are the lessons we can learn that will assist us to provide the best services to victims and next of kin and to keep the community safe.

Karen Pugh has been with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for almost 14 years and began her career with the office as an intern in the Appeals and Trial groups. She has specialized in a number of Bureaus where she has prosecuted such crimes as Fraud and Identity Theft cases involving complex issues and voluminous discovery, Family Violence cases including Domestic Violence and Child Abuse, and Homicide cases. She is currently the Training and Development Bureau Chief where she trains MCAO's newest employees to ethically and fairly prosecute cases.
