Thomas Humphrey has been employed with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) in the Highway Patrol Division for 12 years. Trooper Humphrey has been stationed in the Winslow, Valle (Williams/Grand Canyon Squad), and Flagstaff areas. In October 2016 he transferred to his current duty assignment with the Northern Patrol Bureau Regional Advanced Collision Team (ReACT). His squad services the entire northern half of Arizona and responds to criminal collisions involving serious physical injury or death resulting in vehicular homicide or aggravated assault cases. In December 2019, he became the Northern Region Impaired Driver Coordinator for the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Trooper Humphrey has extensive training in advanced collision investigations and impaired driver investigations. He is a current Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Instructor, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driver Enforcement (ARIDE) Instructor, a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus and Standardized Field Sobriety Test (HGN/SFST) Instructor, Drug Impairment Training for Education Professionals (DITEP), Forensic Phlebotomist, RADAR/LIDAR Instructor, eWarrant Training Instructor, and a Field Training Instructor. Throughout his career, Trooper Humphrey has received numerous awards and letters of commendation for his dedication and work ethic. He has provided numerous trainings to various law enforcement agencies across Northern Arizona, regarding impaired driver enforcement and collision investigation. His goal is for optimal highway safety through the detection, apprehension, and successful prosecution of the impaired driver.

 Sergeant Milius attended the Snowflake Regional Police Academy from August of 1998 until June of 1999. He was hired by the Department of Public Safety in June of 1999 and attended the Arizona Law Enforcement Academy in Phoenix. After completing ALEA, he completed the Department of Public Safety Advanced Basic Academy. He was assigned to the Show Low area in November 1999, as a State Trooper, where he worked until April 2012. He transferred to Gray Mountain in April 2012 where he worked until he promoted to Sergeant in February 2016. Sergeant Milius served in Winslow from February 2016 to August 2016. Sergeant Milius transferred to Flagstaff in August 2016 where he Supervised several squads until August 2018. From August 2018 until January 2020 Sergeant Milius served as the Northern Bureau Administration Sergeant for the Arizona Department of Public Safety. He is currently supervising a squad in Kingman, Arizona.   

 

 Sergeant Milius attended the SFST/ HGN School in October of 1999 and became HGN certified in August of 2000. In February of 2003, Trooper Milius became a General Instructor. He attended Advanced Collision Investigation through IPTM in July of 2003 and Introduction to Collision Reconstruction through AZPOST in September of 2003. He attended the HGN Instructor School in November of 2004 and completed his certification as an HGN Instructor in February 2005. He then attended the PRE-DRE and DRE schools in March of 2005. His DRE certification was completed in September of 2005. In February of 2007 Sergeant Milius became a DRE instructor and in July 2007 he became a DITEP instructor. Sergeant Milius is also an ARIDE instructor. Sergeant Milius became a Phlebotomist in February 2008 and a Collision Reconstructionist in May 2009. In June 2013 Sergeant Milius Graduated from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social and Criminal Justice. He graduated from Norwich University in June 2015 with his Master of Public Administration (MPA).    

 

 Sergeant Milius has coordinated schools and instructed officers throughout Arizona in DUI investigation to include Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. Sergeant Milius has been a lead instructor and course manager while teaching at Drug Recognition Expert schools in Arizona. He has taught Drug Impaired Training for Education Professionals throughout Northern Arizona as well.
